Ready to Listen : Ready to Act

Cardiff Post Article December 2008

Christmas fever has set in for another year, with television channels, shops and houses joining in the festive spirit. There are many wonderful bazaars in our local communities, school concerts and various choral and musical entertainment extravaganzas.  Congratulations to everyone involved in organising the events for everyone to enjoy.

I recently attended the Bethany Baptist Church Celebration of Christmas where local groups, individuals and organisations dressed Christmas Trees. They were very varied, some focusing on local groups whilst others were on a particular theme, such as countries of the world. In the corner of the room was a wonderful display of teddy bears donated by the community.  Each bear contained a special message, and people were invited to take a bear to give to a member of their community who is sad or lonely, particularly at this time of year.  This is the true spirit and meaning of Christmas.

If you know anyone who will be alone at Christmas, there are a lot of organisations, particularly Churches throughout the City, who welcome people at this festive time to share a Christmas Dinner.  Please let me know if you need any contact details of the organisations.

I would like to extend thanks and appreciation to the emergency services and other organisations who operate as normal during the festive time.  The service they offer is a good one, and I hope that they manage to spend a proportion of the festive period with family and friends.

All Councillors are available for advice and support for issues which arise across the City throughout the Christmas and New Year period.

I can be contacted on telephone 02920 627757 or mobile 07970 013332, E-Mail jcowan@cardiff.gov.uk or log on to www.rhiwbinaward.com

My next ward surgery, along with my ward colleagues Adrian Robson and Brian Jones will be held on Monday 19th January between 5.30pm - 7pm at The Rhiwbina Recreation Club, Lon y Dail.

I would like to take this opportunity of wishing you a very happy Christmas and healthy and prosperous New Year.
