Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Bob Thomas from Pantmawr who are celebrating their Diamond Wedding Anniversary.  It was great spending time with the happy couple, who always have fantastic stories to tell about the local area.

The Royal Marines Lighthouse Challenge has been launched to raise essential funds for the Seafarers "200" appeal.  The funds are used for various good causes including resources for children who have lost a parent at sea or have special needs.  Brave individuals wanting to raise money for this worthwhile cause are going to abseil with the Royal Marines at various locations around the UK.  Mrs Jane Baker from St Mellons is attempting the challenge in the next few weeks and is looking to raise money for this excellent charity.  If you would like to sponsor Jane, please contact me and I will put you in touch with her directly.  If anyone would like to take part in an abseil, please let me know and I will arrange for a form to be sent to you.

The Air Cadets, or Air Training Corps has 3 squadrons in Cardiff - 30F in Ely, 2213 in Llandaff North and 1344 at Maindy Barracks.  The ATC is open to boys and girls aged between 13 - 17 years of age.  Typical subscriptions are around £1 per week, and that covers two evenings each week and activities on many weekends.

The ATC is a disciplined youth organisation built on 3 principles namely adventure, educational training and citizenship.  Cadets enjoy themselves flying in gliders and small 2 seat aeroplanes, abseiling, The Duke of Edinburgh Ward Scheme to name just a few.  By the time cadets have achieved their GCSE's, they can easily have gained 2 BTEC qualifications with the ATC which is the equivalent of another 5 GCSE's without taking work home .  The ATC pride themselves in doing everything possible to avoid conflict with school work.

If anyone wants to have the experiences of a lifetime, please contact me and I will put you in touch with the relevant ATC officer.

The Trefoil Guild are holding their Book Sale in Heol y Deri on Saturday 2nd July in the morning.  They always have lots of books on offer - something for everyone!
