Ready to Listen : Ready to Act

12.09.05 Cardiff Post Article

Congratulations to the many residents and groups for taking part and winning in Cardiff in Bloom 2005.  The gardens on display are truly breathtaking, and provide immense pleasure to so many people.  I look forward to meeting the many winners at the City Hall in October for the prize giving ceremony.

The Care Standards Inspectorate (CSIW) are responsible for making sure that care services meet the standards that people have a right to expect.  They are an operationally independent part of the National Assembly for Wales.  The CSIW regulates social care, early years and private and voluntary health care services in Wales.

There are four specific aspects to their work.  Registration : to decide who can provide services.  Inspection : to inspect care services against regulations and national minimum standards and publish reports.  Complaints : to investigate and deal with complaints.  Enforcement : to make sure that the Care Standards Act, and the associated regulations and national minimum standards are met.

If you would like a  copy of an inspection visit to an establishment , or  wish to report a complaint or compliment about an establishment, please contact The Cardiff Regional Office on Cardiff 029 2047 8600 or E-Mail csiw.cdf@wales.gsi.gov.uk

Many people use Pantmawr Road in Rhiwbina.  I have been advised by the Speed Camera Partnership that a new system has been installed and will soon be up and running.  A new Trevelo Bi Directional Camera has been positioned which enables photographs to be taken both ways on the road.  For more information on this or other speed cameras, please do not hesitate to contact me.

A number of concerned residents have contacted me regarding applications for telecommunications masts.  There have been many successful residents campaigns of late, and they have provided robust arguments for not positioning the masts in locations, often close to residential properties.  If you have concerns about an application, please contact the Council on 029 2087 2000 for more information about how you can comment on the  proposals.

My next ward surgery and coffee morning will be held on Saturday 17th September, between 10.30am - 12 noon  at the Wendy Hut, Lon Fach, Rhiwbina .

If I can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me on 029 062 7757 / 079 7001 3332, E-Mail jcowan@cardiff.gov.uk or log on to www.rhiwbinaward.com
