Ready to Listen : Ready to Act

Cardiff Post Article February 2006

Many residents will know of the difficulties I have faced with my former group on the Council.  The last 8 months have been challenging to say the least, but I am looking forward with relish to the future.

Therefore, along with my husband and ward colleague, Cllr Adrian Robson, we have formed a new group on Cardiff County Council entitled, “The Independent Group”.  We remain Councillors for Rhiwbina, and are thoroughly enjoying representing the residents on so many issues, from wheelie bins to potholes, to the future of mental health services to finding drivers for the Rhiwbina Luncheon Club.  No two days are ever the same.

Since the formation of the Independent Group, we have already called for a small reduction in Council Tax, and presented a Notice of Motion to the full Council Meeting calling for a detailed consultation with all parents and guardians on the school re-organisation plan.

Although there are only two members at present, we finding that we have more opportunities to speak than backbench Councillors, find we have a greater access to information and are able to play a greater part in taking the Council forward.

If any resident would like a tour of County or City Hall, please let me know.  The Council Chamber, particularly in City Hall is most impressive, and is worth a visit.

The general public have an opportunity to ask a question to the Executive Member at full Council Meetings.  If you would like to pose a question or like any further information, please let me know and I will put you in touch with the relevant Council Official.

Many people are concerned about the prospect of having wheelie bins for a number of reasons.  If you would like Adrian and I to visit you to discuss further, please do not hesitate to contact me on 029 2062 7757, 079 7001 3332 or E-Mail jcowan@cardiff.gov.uk  Our website is http://www.rhiwbinaward.com/
