Ready to Listen : Ready to Act

Cardiff Post Article November 2006

I am sure the good people of this City would share my anger towards the decision by some Councillors to stop all groups on the Council presenting Notices of Motion (of local interest and concern) to the Council Meeting once a month.  The only reason I can think of to justify this decision is, in my view, to silence Councillors.  But this will have the reverse effect in my view.  Councillors will find other ways to raise issues, for example  using the power of the press.  What is this Council worried about ?  Democracy.

The campaign to stop the Principality closing in Rhiwbina is ongoing.  We have, to date, nearly 700 signatures and wish to thank the local shops and residents for their support in this matter.  It is essential that a strong signal is sent to the Principality that the good people who use the branch are not happy and want the decision reversed.  Several people have stated that they will close their accounts in protest, and this is a decision that they have not taken lightly.  Organisations must remember the trend that the loyal 20% of customers bring in 80% of the business and as the Principality is allegedly run for the people, this decision is wrong and I am urging the powers that be to think again.  There are other vacant shops in Rhiwbina which could be used if the existing location is not suitable.

My ward colleague Adrian Robson and I have a public meeting to discuss the latest situation about the Llanishen Fach Road Narrowings in the Beulah Assembly Rooms on Saturday 18th November, between 2.30pm – 4pm.
