Cardiff Post Article January 2007
Several residents from across the City have contacted me over recent months regarding various issues ranging from problems with memorials to building work and I have referred them to the CouncilÂ’s Trading Standards Department. Â Â
Â
The aim of Cardiff Trading Standards is to maintain a fair and safe environment for everyone who purchases and sells goods and services in Cardiff . They uphold the relevant parts of Criminal Law which legislate against unfair practices. This is achieved by advice and support for local consumers and businesses, and where necessary by enforcement activities. The Trading Standards Officers have powers which can include inspection of good s and seizure of documents depending on the suspected offence.
Â
Cardiff Trading Standards have responsibilities for more than 80 Acts of Parliament along with secondary and European Legislation. They include weights and measures, fair trading, product safety, food standards, consumer credit, business advice, animal health and welfare, licensing, under age sales, property misdescriptions and road traffic.
Â
If you have any problems relating to any of the above areas, there are a few points of Contact. Consumer Direct Wales, which is supported by the Office of Fair Trading (0845 404 0506) and Cardiff Trading Standards (029 2087 2059).Â
