Ready to Listen : Ready to Act

Cardiff Post Article October 2007

The proposed closure of local post offices is an issue which local residents feel passionately about.  Post Offices are a lifeline for so many people, and often the hub amongst the rows of shops in small districts.  The closure of post office can have a severe and often detrimental impact on remaining shops, and removes a service which is accessed by so many people on a regular basis.

When the Rhiwbina Post Office was proposed to close, the representations, letters and petitions appeared to fall on deaf ears as the branch was closed with no thought towards the local residents, many of whom were older and unable to reach a different branch.

We are now hearing through sources and the newspapers that another tranch of branches are proposed to close and this must not continue.  An alarming 2500 post offices (which is indeed a fifth of those left in the UK) are programmed to close by 2009.  This has been confirmed, I am told, by the UK Government.

If residents would like to make representations, please contact me and I will assist in passing their concerns to the relevant authorities.

As patrons of the Chrysanthemum and Dahlia Society, my ward colleague Adrian Robson and I are delighted to be invited to present prizes to the winners of the competition.  This will take place at The Rhiwbina Scout Hall, Heol y Bont starting at 2pm on Wednesday 7th November.  If anyone is interested in joining the association, please contact me.

I have a Coffee Afternoon Ward Surgery, in conjunction with a dog warden from Cardiff County Council on Wednesday 14th November, between 2.30pm – 4pm at Rhiwbina Library.  This is followed by a Schools Update Meeting between 6.30pm – 8pm at Rhiwbeina Primary School on the same date.
