Ready to Listen : Ready to Act

Cardiff Post Article May 2008

After a hard fought campaign, I was pleased to finally see Thursday May 1st flash up on my calendar.  I fought the campaign for the Rhiwbina ward on local issues ensuring that every piece of literature was positive and did not run down or make reference to the other candidates or parties.   Unfortunately, this was not the same for one political group in particular, but I think this in fact helped my Independent colleagues as the electorate are fed up with party political point scoring.  They want to read about what you have done and what you can offer them.  Local issues for local people was the focus of our campaign.

I was delighted to be returned as a Councillor for Rhiwbina along with Adrian Robson in the early hours of Friday morning and pleased that Brian Jones was also victorious.  We had the highest turnout across the City, with very comfortable majorities.  I was sad to see some hard working Councillors lose their seats and watched with interest as the new elected members took office, although the losing Councillors and retiring Councillors are still recognised as Councillors for 4 days after the Election.

And the work most definitely starts here.  On Friday afternoon  my ward colleagues Adrian Robson and Brian Jones met with the Electoral Commission to discuss the election, had a meeting with the deputy County Solicitor, booked our first Coffee Morning and Ward Surgery and discussed our thank you party and ward issues which need taking forward.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the people of Rhiwbina and Pantmawr for putting their faith and support behind the Independent Councillors.  We will work our very hardest for you all and are always accessible.

Our next Coffee Afternoon and Surgery is taking place on Saturday 24th May, starting at 12 midday - 1.30pm at Rhiwbina Library.  Please pop along for a Coffee and a chat.
