Ready to Listen : Ready to Act

Cardiff Post Article May 2008

Rhiwbina is an area which is bursting with talent.  I have enjoyed attending performances in many venues including the Beulah Assembly Rooms, Bethany Baptist Church, Llanishen Fach Primary School, Rhiwbeina Primary School and All Saints Church Hall to name a few.   I have seen wonderful performances from the local schools, to internationally renowned choirs, to local singing groups to musical entertainment shows.  There really are so many opportunities for children through to adulthood to nurture talent and to put on wonderful shows which brings immense pleasure to so many people.

The new series of Dr Who has started and, along with Torchwood, this programme has showcased Cardiff on television at primetime. It has attracted many visitors to look at the key locations particular in Cardiff Bay. I was pleased to have contact with Rhiwbina resident Nerys Jones who has been in some of the episodes. Nerys obviously has acting in her blood as just over 2 years ago she formed a performing arts youth drama group called "Stars Performing Arts" where children can learn all aspects of theatre including acting, singing, dancing and backstage work.   The ethos of the group has evolved around the slogan "Everyone gets the chance to sparkle”.  If you would like more information about the group, please let me know and I will put you in touch with Nerys.

There are numerous opportunities for residents in the City to become involved in in their communities.  They include Girlguiding, Scouting, St John Ambulance, Red Cross and drama and singing groups.  If you are a hands on person, a backstage worker or have children who would be interested in attending a group, please contact me for a list of organisations.

My ward colleagues Adrian Robson, Brian Jones and I are holding our next ward surgery in the Pantmawr Inn, Tyla Teg on Monday 16th June, between 5pm - 6.30pm.
