Cardiff Post Article August 2008
Cardiff, being the Capital of Wales, should look inviting and appealing to its residents, workforce and visitors.n The gateways into the City are often a let down.n Tourists coming from the motorway down the A470 are often met with overgrown brambles, litter infested areas and signs which have graffiti on.
I appreciate that the Council does not have unlimited resources, but they need to make more of an effort on our gateways as other Cities and towns do. The planters on
The Council loan Rhiwbina flower holders and these are planted and maintained by the Chrysanthemum and Dahlia Society.n Shopkeepers and volunteers water and tend for the plants also.n The additional plants and flowers are a welcome addition to the area.
I feel the Council should work in partnership with organisations such as the Chrysanthemum and Dahlia Society who work tirelessly with communities to ensure areas look beautiful.n For limited cost implications and care, the Council could make parts of the City more eye-catching for all.
I am sure local schools would love to become part of a similar scheme, and the Council should investigate if corporate sponsorship could be obtained in return for working in partnership.n Some schools are developing eco schemes, and the children could learn many life skills if given opportunities to use these further in the communities.
The next Chrysanthemum and Dahlia Society show is taking place on Wednesday 10th September at the Scout Hut, Heol y Bont in Rhiwbina from midday.n For keen gardeners and anyone wanting to see breathtaking displays, this is the place for you - the show culminates with the presentation evening at 5pm where my colleague Adrian Robson and I give out awards.
My ward colleagues Adrian Robson, Brian Jones and I are holding a ward surgery on Saturday 6th September, between 10.30am - 12 Noon at the Masons Arms Public House Function Room.n Tyn y Parc Road.
